Greeters, Ushers, and Altar Guild

Greeters, Ushers, and Altar Guild

The job of a Greeter is to make members and visitors feel welcome when they attend services at Berea Friendship. Greeters should be in place early so that they are available to acknowledge people as they arrive and can offer assistance in finding the nursery, classrooms, restrooms, friendly faces, etc. If you have a great smile, a warm handshake, and are an early-bird, this is the job for you!

Ushers play a similar role, but have additional responsibilities such as assisting people in finding a seat or escorting them there, distributing bulletins, monitoring the lights and temperature of the sanctuary, collecting the offering, and being on call for any needs of the pastor or congregation during services. They also keep track of attendance figures. Usher teams rotate from week to week.

The Altar Guild is responsible for dressing and maintaining the altar and providing the elements and accoutrements for communion. This includes ordering supplies, caring for paraments and brassware, arranging flowers and tribute candles, and observing the colors and traditions of the Christian calendar. These responsibilities are rotated on a monthly basis among the Altar Guild volunteers.

All these jobs fall under the guidance of the Worship Committee. There is no specified term of service; anyone is welcome to perform the duties of these positions as long as they are able or willing. Training is provided; if you are interested in serving on the Altar Guild, or as a Greeter or Usher, please see Worship Committee Chairperson Bobbie Bogan, Head Usher Ronnie Hunter, or contact the church office at 246-4311.
